It's Just Life, pt. 2 (Grenoble)

Today was rainy in the morning so we hung out at the apartment and read until about 11AM when it cleared a bit. We headed to the train station and purchased open-ended train tickets to Chamonix; we'll go August 9-11th because I was able to make a few phone calls and secure a hotel.

We then walked downtown to the tourist information office to find out where we might take a few day trips into the mountains for some walks. They were helpful with brochures, and after we got back to the apartment, Marie got online and checked out the bus schedules. Friday we'll head out to Villard de Lans for the day.

It started raining again when we stepped out of the tourist office so we crossed the street and took cover in a cafe where we visited with an 85 year old resident who, as an engineer, lived in 50 countries (including New York for two years). He was quite chatty and his English was terrific. An hour later the weather cleared and this lovely, accomplished gentleman who had been married to "a very beautiful woman", extended his hand to Marie and kissed hers. A nice "first"!

Following the local custom, we headed to the store late in the afternoon and purchased some fresh food and Marie cooked again. Hey, that's three times in the past week! It's nice to have an apartment where we can simply live and relax.
